What moves silver
Silver is half monetary metal, half industrial input. It usually follows gold's direction with bigger swings, and its industrial side decides how much bigger.
- Gold's direction. Most large silver moves start as gold moves. Silver then amplifies them: it often rises faster in gold rallies and falls harder in pullbacks.
- Industrial demand. Solar panels, electronics and electrification use a large share of supply, so the growth outlook matters far more for silver than for gold.
- The gold/silver ratio. When the ratio falls, silver is outperforming gold, which usually means a metals advance is broadening.
- A thin market. Silver is a much smaller market than gold, so positioning and flows can move the price sharply in both directions.
How this forecast is made
The desk compares today's situation with every comparable situation in roughly ten years of recorded daily closes, and counts how often the market was higher 20 trading sessions later. That count is pulled toward the market's own usual habit when the sample is small, so a thin sample cannot shout. When the evidence is not there, the desk says so instead of forcing a call.
